When Pete first told me that he was planning a weenie roast and sleigh riding party with his posse friends & families for the end of January I thought he was crazy! It would be sooooooooooooo cold!!! But January 30th turned out to be a perfect evening. Cold enough, but no wind and the most beautiful full moon was shining brightly. It was amazing to see the shadows cast by the moonlight. With a warm fire blazing and hay bales pulled in close, it wasn't hard to stay warm and cozy. And the roasted hot dogs were wonderful, as well as delicious chili, hot chocolate (extremely HOT chocolate which you had to hold for a few minutes before sipping or add snow as Austin did), and yummy cookies.
Then Mark Albertson hitched up his two little horses to the sleigh that David built years ago and gave everyone rides down to the Gem Lake Pond, along the windbreak and around our pond, or just up and down the snow covered roads. We were glad to have the nice padded cushions that Marilyn made and we piled warm blankets around to help keep the chill away. Wish the DeBrys and all of you could have been here for such a fun event! We decided that while it was great fun for a 15-minute ride, it would be pretty miserable to have to do much serious traveling that way!
The horses were "steaming" when we got back from the rides.
Bonfires are magical any time of the year, but seemed especially amazing on a very cold night.

Okay, no wonder I'm so homesick! That looks perfectly magical. The full moon was spectacular here last night also.
Wished we could have come--at the last minute the ice-fishing activity got cancelled because the guy got called to work. Looked like a fun, memorable night!
The best part was, neither you nor I had to COOK!! Woo Hoo! Those guys put together a pretty delicious dinner in the middle of winter. The first weinie roast of the season was a good one!
Mark told Pete that he wanted to make it an annual event! That would be fun to look forward to.
